Christian Walth, son of Johann and Maria (Jutzy) Walth was born
January 31, 1897. He was joined in marriage to Rosa Hieb November 28,
1915 at Leola. She was born May 18, 1895 to Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Hieb.
Christian and Rosa farmed his father's farm northeast of Hosmer from
1915 until 1945 when they moved to Hosmer, and son, Milbert took over
the farming operation. This union was blessed with two sons: Milbert was
born February 22, 1924 and Walter was born August 28, 1933 and died at
the age of 16, December 24, 1949. Christian died at the age of 56, May
23, 1953. Rosa married Emanuel Aman June 8, 1962 and he died November
11, 1983.
Johann Walth was born on July 30, 1854 to Jacob and Karolina (Reuter)
Walth in Glueckstahl, South Russia. Here he grew to manhood and was
joined in marriage to Maria Jutzy on November 1, 1877. Maria's parents
were Johann and Rosina (Stotz) Jutzy. Following the marriage he served a
term in the Russian army and then farmed until September of 1889. He
then sold his belongings and immigrated to America with his wife and a
family of five children, ranging from six months to eleven years of age.
They arrived in McPherson County on October 11, 1889. To this family of
five Russian children, namely John (1878-1969), Jacob (1881-1961), Mrs.
Jacob (Karolina) Lammle (1883-1947), Mrs. George (Rosina) Keszler
(1887-1969), and Mrs. Philip (Mary) Huber (1889-1983), four Americans
were born, making the total nine. The Americans were: George
(1891-1957), Gottlieb (1893-1967), Martin (1894-1966), and Christian
(1897-1953). In the fall of 1915, Johann and Maria returned to village
living as they had been accustomed to in Russia and retired to Hosmer. A
cow and a large garden provided pastime and sustenance. Johann died on
March 3, 1932 and Maria died on April 4, 1936. Both are buried in the
Bethany Cemetery in Hosmer.1
